Five of the Many Ways Racism Drags The Lives of Others

Written by on November 24, 2018

Yes, I said it. I’m talking about the topic of racism — a controversial issue held in every media outlet or social media network. Just in case you’re ignorant with a peanut-sized brain and do not know the definition of race, please allow me to define it. Racism is the oppression of a person based on their race just because someone else believes that their race is the superior one. In other words, the belief that one color is better than other just because it “looks better” or “it’s the most appealing.”

An example of this would be Red vs. Orange. Everybody loves red but hates orange. Or in the simplest terms, everybody loves Santa but hates Trump for his race for in which, I 100% agree with.

One way or another, you or someone else has dealt with racism. Even the whites deal with racism when they go to the Mexican grocery store to shop for tortillas because the Taco Bell down the street does not do it with justice.

Nevertheless, racism is a broad topic. There are many types of racism. Many ways to be knocked out for belonging to a race you never chose. That’s because there are many ways to be screwed in different ways or settings. The most important types of racism are individual, interpersonal, institutional, cultural, and systemic. Continue reading if you want to hear all of them.

Individual Racism

Individual racism happens when a person’s beliefs, attitudes, and actions are based on stereotypes or prejudices against another race. This is a type of racism that you hardly see in public settings because, in most societies, this sort of racism is not a good thing in a worldwide view.

An example of this is when an individual believes that their race is superior to any other race. An example that I love mentioning is Donald Trump. I’m sure the billionaire thinks that his race is superior to Mexicans as Trump believes Mexicans are criminals, rapists, drug lords because the whites are so innocent too. Before you make your predisposed judgments the answer is no, being part orangutan is not a race, it’s a species. Yes, orangutans are smart but smart enough to lead a country that includes all the many races that had migrated or lived on American soil before Trump was born? When you see a white woman yelling at a Mexican for speaking in Spanish, she’s practicing own racism.

Interpersonal Racism

This is also another form of racism you’re most likely to see people engage in on social media. Interpersonal racism is when you look at racism between individuals. This could be between two people when they drag one another on social media platforms as they express their feelings of how one race is better than the other.

Institutional Racism

Institutional racism is another form of racism that has been happening now for a long time. This is a type of racism that occurs racism is being acted upon races within organizations. It’s when an institution makes choices as an overall group against a race.

This is a type of racism that has been happening over time, for most of human history. This includes Hitler with him particularly hating against black people and other people of color during the Holocaust. This also provides police officers in the United States. Police officers engage in institutional racism when they target people of color including black people and Latinos.

My favorite joke of Institutional racism was during a white house correspondents dinner when comedian Cecily Strong said, “Barack Obama’s hair is so white, it could talk back to the police.” She also said the most iconic joke in my opinion, “The Secret Service is the only government agency that is responsible if a black man gets shot.” I love America.

Cultural Racism

This is a sort of racism that occurs within a culture, happening for years and years. You know it’s in the history textbooks how white men founded The United States? Well, it is within American culture that it takes white men to be influential in leading a country. That’s why there are so many rich and powerful white men in office because it’s deep into the cultural racism that it takes white men to lead. This sort of hate is what lead to the start of White Supremacy within the United States. White supremacy is the belief that whites are by far the superior race while the people of color laugh at this belief.

Systemic Racism

This sort of racism is the act upon racism within a system. An example of this is separating people of color in schools, churches, movie theaters, restaurants, and hospitals. This sort of systemic racism has mostly faded away as minorities have either been oppressed from these settings or they have been assimilated into safe environments.

No matter where you are, racism occurs everywhere in the world. It’s just up to you in decide to deal with the issue.
