Solid Rust – Anything
Written by Kevin Tanza on October 20, 2022
Solid Rust is band that started out in the streets of Malmo, Sweden, back in 2012 and they managed to build a solid fanbase with a mixture of Hard Rock with some Metal elements that were influenced by the Bay Area sound. Nowadays, they have made a comeback with their new singer, vocalist Michael Svensson, and this new single, Anything.
An element that is often forgotten when it comes to new Rock music is simply being straightforward. A lot of new artists don’t know how to make that a riff can carry the weight of the song, but this isn’t something that guitarist Mattias Nilson struggles with. The riffs in Anything are strong, sluggish and with a lot of energy, which is the basis of Rock ‘N’ Roll and something Solid Rust thrives at.
This is a single that kind of sells you what the band is all about: simple, straight to the point and with a gusto for Hard Rock in the old fashioned way that is simply appealing. In that regard, Svensson’s performance deserves a lot of credit: he really sells you what he is singing about and makes everything thick in a very compelling manner. This is something that not a lot of singers can accomplish and speaks a lot about his virtues behind the mic.
Overall, Anything is a fun, powerful and compelling that stays with you from the very first listen and in a good way! A lot of new bands tend to overthink things, but Solid Rust have a charming simplicity to their songwriting that is very refreshing. Definitely a band worth checking out.
